Abstract: In the year 1995 a comparative study of the saproxylic beetle fauna was carried out in two nature forests as well as two managed forests, all of the study areas located in the “Naturpark Bayerische Rhön” in Bavaria, Germany. With ten window traps per study site a total of 368 species of Coleoptera were recorded, including 150 species of saproxylic beetles. In a synecological analysis the study sites were compared. Differences between managed and nature forests can be observed.

Abstract: As part of our project to understand the mechanisms structuring arboreal arthropod communities in tropical and temperate forests, we carried out a total of 19 foggings on ten oaks of a timber forest in the Steigerwald (N-Bavaria, Germany). Here, we present the faunistic results for the Coleoptera. In total we identified 213 species of Coleoptera, among which 36 were phytobiontic and 88 were xylobiontic species. 21 species of the red-lists, three species rare in the district, and one new species for Middle Europe were classified. The dominating ecological group among the arboreal beetle fauna (in relation to species and abundances) were xylobiontic beetles. Analysing them showed structural and ecological similarities to the species spectrum of coppice- and composite-forests. Within the crown fauna there was a high proportion of twig living species with great heat requirements. Because of their acrodendric habits their existence could hardly be proofed by using classical catching methods. With respect to the insufficient data base for the acrodendric fauna, new studies about the potential threat of species in the red-lists is suggested by spot-check foggings.

Abstract: Uncertainties in the 1992 Red Data List of the Bombyliidae of Bavaria could be verified meanwhile. For that reason an update is given. Zusammenfassung: Bis heute hat sich die Datengundlage für die Bombyliiden Bayerns so erweitert, daß ein klareres Bild der sie betreffenden RL gegeben werden kann.

Abstract: After 50 years of absence Oxybelus variegatus Wesmael, 1852, is recorded again from Bavaria. The digger wasp was found in a sandy area in the northern Oberpfalz.
